Introduction

1. In recent years, increased awareness about intellectual property rights has led to both individuals and companies to seek protection for their intellectual property rights. Hence, requests for information on intellectual property rights have become more complex and often raised the need to seek information beyond national borders.

Two. The tasks consist of managing and providing information on intellectual property rights have increased considerably in many IPOs. In many cases, due to the limitation imposed on recruitment, it has been possible for offices and organizations to increase the number of staff to cope with the workload increasing. Support systems through automation have become one of the instruments possible introduction in an office or organization to significantly support the administrative and information dissemination.

Three. WIPO has provided practical assistance to IPOs in introducing automation systems through various support programs in the context of development cooperation. This paper reports on the progress and status of the initiatives undertaken in automation of intellectual property in the countries of the African, Arab, Asia Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean.

Collective management of copyright and related rights

April. After having raised the need for assistance in the collective management of copyright in the Copyright Office of Burkina Faso, WIPO provided support to the development and operation of an automated solution that has come to be successful and for which it is developing an updated computer program to be implemented in several offices.

May. Overall, this software is related to three elements that are important for the collective management of copyright and related rights:

- bibliographic and administrative data relating to the authors or creators of works;

- bibliographic and administrative data relating to the works, including the statements made ​​by rights holders and aimed at collecting society;
